Periodontal Therapy

If you are diagnosed with periodontal disease, (gum pockets deeper than 3 mm with bleeding points upon non-traumatic probing), your dentist may recommend a periodontal therapy program to control your disease. The severity of the periodontal disease determines the length of your program. Our goal is to eliminate bleeding, mouth odor, bone loss as well as reduce gum pocket depths to eliminate bacterial re-infection. Remember, healthy gums never bleed! It takes six months to one year before new gum attachment fibers become mature and more resistant to bacterial re-infection, therefore the doctor/hygienist recommends a three month recall/continuing care interval so that your level of periodontal health can be monitored and maintained. As your mouth continues healing, the interval between hygiene appointments will be evaluated according to your individual progress and the rate of calculus formation.

Wisdom Teeth Extraction

At some point in life, most everyone requires that their wisdom teeth be extracted as a measure of preventive dentistry. If you’ve been putting off the removal of your wisdom teeth, The Dental Shoppe team can help. With today’s dental technology, this procedure has been improved to maximize your comfort and speed along with your recovery time. Before extracting your wisdom teeth, additional sedation maybe given the night before and an hour before the procedure. The Dental Shoppe dentist will administer anesthetic, open up the gum tissue over the tooth, remove any bone covering the tooth, separate any connective tissue, and remove the tooth itself. In most cases, your recovery will only last a few days. Your Dental Shoppe team will provide you detailed information on your recovery.

Oral Cancer Screening

As a comprehensive dental practitioner, The Dental Shoppe offers routine oral cancer screenings to you as a patient. As with all cancers, early detection is essential. A patient who does not seek regular continuous care from a dental professional is putting their health at risk by delaying a diagnosis in the early stages.

Night Guard

Many people notice chipped or cracked teeth, but don’t remember when the injury occurred. If you have experienced this, you may have damaged your teeth while sleeping through grinding or clenching. In order to keep you from seriously damaging your teeth, The Dental Shoppe recommends an appliance called a night guard. A night guard is a plastic dental appliance that fits over the top teeth. When grinding or clenching, much of the force will be transferred to the night guard instead of the teeth. Often, deep grooves will eventually form in the night guard from the force of the grinding. The night guard prevents this same force from causing damage to the teeth. Without a night guard enamel can be worn down excessively, leading to tooth sensitivity. The teeth may also be chipped or cracked, requiring extensive restorative dental treatments to repair them.

Mouth Guards / Sports Guards

The American Dental Association estimates that sports mouth guards prevent approximately 200,000 injuries each year in high school and collegiate football alone. This proves that properly designed and custom fit mouth guards are essential in the prevention of athletic oral and facial injuries. If you enjoy an active lifestyle that includes sports or other similar activities, mouth guards are a great way to protect against concussions and oral injury. The Dental Shoppe offers custom made mouth guards for you or your children that fit properly, are comfortable, resilient, tasteless and cause minimal interference with speaking and breathing. The American Dental Association recommends the use of mouth guards in 29 sports/exercise activities. Sports guards are designed specifically to protect the teeth and mouth during athletic and recreational activities. They are very important for those with braces, bridgework and to protect teeth from potential trauma. Our gallery has more on mouth guard protection. .

PULPITIS (root canal therapy)

Root canal treatment is designed to eliminate bacteria from the infected root canal, prevent reinfection of the tooth and save the natural tooth. When one undergoes a root canal, the inflamed or infected pulp is removed and the inside of the tooth is carefully cleaned and disinfected, then filled and sealed. The routine procedure is completed with a placement of a crown. Thanks to advances in technology and dental techniques, modern root canal procedures are more effective while taking less time. With proper care, most teeth that have had root canal treatment can last a lifetime. Our gallery has details on root canal treatment. .

Extractions

Tooth Extractions are recommended when a tooth cannot be saved with other treatments such as root canal treatment and to prevent infection from spreading to other areas of your mouth. It may also be performed to extract extra teeth. Your dentist may recommend pulling a tooth if there is severe tooth decay that affects the underlying nerve, an infected tooth that does not respond to antibiotics or root canal therapy, improperly positioned or overcrowding of teeth, tooth trauma causing irreparable damage, problematic wisdom teeth, and if gum disease is present and causing loss of bone and tissue supporting the tooth.
